The Lignite Energy Council mourns the loss of Al Christianson, a dedicated member of our lignite energy family. For nearly 50 years, Al served in a variety of roles in the industry and was a crucial partner at the North Dakota Legislature. As a former Mayor of Washburn, he never quit thinking of coal country and played roles both big and small throughout the years. From providing fly ash for use at the Painted Woods golf course all the way to becoming a keystone in saving Coal Creek Station, his work for the region and industry never tired. His passion, dedication, and expertise have left an indelible mark on our industry. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.Just a year ago, we filmed an I Am Lignite video with Al in recognition of his retirement. One thing I’ll miss about Al. He legitimately cared about people. He treated you like a son and never hesitated to lend a hand or advice. Rest in peace
I will really miss seeing Big Al when I return to ND this summer. We had a lot to talk about with both of us being recently retired and trying to enjoy warm winters in the South. He deserved so many more years of retirement for all of his amazing life/career accomplishments. Al had my back and always supported my efforts without hesitation and I can't thank him enough for being a mentor and a friend during my Lignite career. RIP Al
Al Christianson = North Dakota Legendary
bismarcktribune.com/news/state-regional/government-politics/burgum-other-officials-ask-for-more-m...Officials believe there are around 30 federal regulations that pose threats to the futures of coal, oil and gas, and a number of agricultural products. These industries are prominent in North Dakota's tax base and job market. The state is also active in lawsuits around how permits to access federal surface and mineral land are issued. In coal- and oil-rich western North Dakota, there is a checkerboard system of land holdings, with a mix of federal, state, and private owners. Slow federal permitting means fewer North Dakota natural resources are developed, at least in the short term, state officials said. ... See MoreSee Less
