Lignite Line – Lignite Council hosts candidates, Annual Meeting deadlines approaching

LEC hosts joint ND legislative tour with ND Petroleum Council

Last week, the Lignite Energy Council co-hosted a legislative candidate tour with the ND Petroleum Council. The two-day bus tour consisted of 30 attendees, including 20 geographically and politically diverse candidates from the Red River Valley to the western edge of the state.  The candidates, along with 10 incumbent legislators, visited oil rigs and gas processing stations in Killdeer and Watford City, had an educational session with the MHA Nation energy leaders, and participated in presentations and in-depth tours at Coal Creek Station and the Falkirk Mine near Underwood.

“One of the most important and valuable aspects of the Lignite Energy Council is the willingness of our industry members to open their doors to both politicians and the public to provide them with a firsthand look at how lignite is mined and processed into the most affordable and reliable electricity produced in the United States. It is critical that policymakers have this experience in order to understand both the magnitude and value that the lignite industry provides to the citizens of North Dakota,” said Jonathan Fortner, Vice President of Government Relations and External Affairs at the Lignite Energy Council.
